”I will lift up my eyes to the hills—From whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.”
Psalm 121:1 & 2
Look up! When things are tugging at your soul, look up!
Where can we turn, in this world, when we find troubles on every side? Loved ones disappoint us. Jobs let us down. We fail ourselves…overweight, sluggish and short tempers. Morals are lacking. Terrorists attack.
Where can we find rest, comfort, help and protection?
Psalm 121 is an oasis of spiritual R and R.
“I will lift up my eyes to the hills—
From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth.
He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, He who keeps Israel
Shall neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD is your keeper;
The LORD is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
Nor the moon by night.
The LORD shall preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul.
The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in
From this time forth, and even forevermore.”
If you ever find yourself distraught, upset, worried or afraid, turn to God. In your heart, call to Him. (He is Spirit and Truth: He will hear your sincere prayer.)
And, if you have a Bible, read it. (The Bible is meant to be daily bread, not cake for special occasions.) Thumb through the pages till you find a portion of the Scripture that “connects” or resonates with your heart. Then, slowly read the passage and allow yourself to take it in. Pray while you read, asking God to help you understand what you’re reading and ask Him to help you apply what you read to your own life.
Finally, turn to Christ, for permanent peace. (Read John 3:16.) Jesus is the only way to the Father. He died in our place, suffering torture and death. His blood washes away our sin. If we turn to Him, in faith, then our sins are removed from us as far as the east is from the west! And we are justified, in God’s sight. (Justified means “just as if I’d” never sinned!)
